Sarah Gibb's illustrations are quite stunning. She uses silhouettes to great effect, breaking up the black with soft, gradient, backgrounds and complimenting color schemes that use bright pops of color throughout, like red stockings or a pink quilt. Part of the unique appeal of her illustrations is the remarkably detailed pictures in a largely silhouetted piece of art. She incorporates a whimsical and fairytale-esque feel throughout her work, making small details like pots and pans or countless tree leaves feel mysterious. Her work has a simultaneously sophisticated and folksy tone, which is delightful to behold. It also lends great credence and world-building elements to the content of many of the picture books that she illustrates, which are often set in fairytale-like kingdoms.
