Illustrator/Illustrator - Author Study

Introduction
One of the focuses of this project is illustrators who take fairy tale content and themes and truly make a story their own. Stories and art that play with archetypes, folklore, and storytelling modalities offer a lot to the viewers and readers. When illustrators incorporate a little darkness, sharp edges, and awareness into their work, it makes the art able to speak more deeply, and to more people. Children also need to learn how to navigate and process scary or "negative" emotions, and children's books that incorporate a bit of darkness into the work provide a space for kids to start learning those skills. Illustrations that incorporate whimsy and joy into the art are also a focus of this project. Another focus of this project is ensuring that books about and by diverse peoples and creators, providing positive representation for underrepresented and marginalized peoples, are heavily present in the project. In creating this project, a goal of learning more about the individual authors and titles chosen, as well as further developing blog-creation skills, is hoped for.
