GuoJing's (郭婧) work has
two distinct styles:
1) GuoJing creates black and white + grayscale pencil drawings that are smooth, soft, full of curved lines and stunningly done shading. These drawings tend to contain content that is more fantastical and geared towards younger children. These illustrations are soft, endearing, and joy filled. GuoJing tells these stories without the use of words. The illustrations are so full of context and expression that they tell the story on their own.
2) GuoJing creates rougher sketches, with lots of overlapping lines in pen and ink, with uneven color placed throughout, favoring yellows and reds in neutral colored backgrounds. These drawings contain portraits and sketches of everyday life, such as getting on a train or walking down a street. They also are geared towards all ages. While these are often very detailed, they feel like a microscopically brief moment caught on a sketchpad. The perspectives of these sketches convey a tone containing warmth and caring for the subjects, who are generally unaware of the artist.
