SUBSCRIPTION DATABASES
The Los Angeles Public Library provides access to Gale In Context: Elementary with the possession of a library card! This database is designed to provide elementary school aged children with research skills and resources. It is provided through libraries, so there is no cost to the users.

Having free access to professional level resources that are designed for children helps to address issues of inequity and access. Information should not be withheld from those without significant financial resources.
Oak Park Public Library offers the usage of ScienceFlix to patrons! Appropriate for elementary and middle school aged students, this service is designed with a variety of learner types in mind. There are interactive activities, texts in varying formats, experiments, and videos!

Designing resources that are geared towards different learning types allows the same information to be absorbed by all students, regardless of learning type. This helps to provide a more equitable approach to learning modes.
Another really cool subscription database that Oyster Bay – East Norwich Public Library offers patrons is Daily Life Through History. This service allows students of all ages to develop research skills and to explore what life was like for people in different eras of the past.

Daily Life Through History strives to put different eras into context for modern students. This is a great approach to developing an appreciation for history.
Mesa Public Library provides access to Miss Humblebee's Academy to their patrons. Geared towards ages 3 - 6, this service works to prepare children for kindergarten through fun games and activities.
This service focuses on math and science, but also provides early literacy skills and a strong foundation for these skills to continue growing on.

The ever-popular and fun Culturegrams Kids Edition is also available to patrons of Amityville Public Library. Appropriate for school-aged children, this service shows kids what life is like in different countries across the globe, and allows them to explore a variety of cultures.

This is a great tool to promote cultural awareness and to develop an interest in global issues.
