ACTIVITY KITS

~ Activity kits can be checked out from libraries and brought home, used, and returned, where they will be replenished and made ready for the next patron to check out.

~ Activity kits are very individualized, so age appropriateness and safety ratings should be checked for each kit before use.

~ Kits can include books, coloring pages, crayons, toys, entrance passes, worksheets, tools, and many other components.

~ Activity kits are incredibly versatile and beneficial. Library activity kits can be: â€‹

  • focused on supplementing academic learning like math skills

  • designed to be a resources for home schoolers

  • purely recreational, like superhero themed kits

  • promoting a love of the outdoors and exploration, like "experience pass" kits

  • geared towards emotional development and support, such as "Meditation Kits"

  • Another great use of library activity kits is checking them out for children if they are going on a family roadtrip with long periods of time in the car.

Nederland Community Library provides "Experience Pass" activity kits that locals of all ages can check out. As well as early-literacy activities, they can contain several free admissions passes to places like botanical gardens, state parks, museums, and aquariums!

These are one of my favorite things that libraries offer. The benefits of nature and the outdoors on child development are significant, and libraries provide equitable access to places like National and State Parks.

The Library District's Clark County Library of Las Vegas provides a "Super Hero" activity kit that includes mask-making supplies, stickers, and activities for ages 3 and up!

Allowing kids to do fun and creative activities, especially around such a perennially popular theme as superheroes, is a great option for road trips or long car rides.

Bonus!

The Washington Post discusses library activity kits:

"This growing trend lets kids check out games and dolls from a toy library"

The Library District's Clark County Library of Las Vegas provides a "Meditation Kit" for children ages 5 and up, that focuses on self- soothing and calming practices.

An absolutely amazing resource, meditation and emotional intelligence activities from the library help to promote self awareness and growth.

The Library District's Clark County Library of Las Vegas also provides "Take-And-Make" activity kits for kids every week! This one focuses on recycling and reusing, encouraging kids to think about ways to protect the environment. Supplies and instructions to make a plastic-bag holder out of recycled materials for school-aged children are included.

Teaching kids the benefits of recycling, and how to reuse everyday items for fun crafts, is a transferable skillset that can benefit them, and our planet and environment, throughout their life.

The Library District's Clark County Library of Las Vegas also provides "Storytime-To-Go" kits for ages 0-5. These kits include a themed book bundle, craft kit, and activity sheet. This is a great idea for kids who really love a certain character or author. The activities and crafts help to make it an immersive experience for them.

Another great idea for road trips with kids, these themed activity kits feature popular characters and stories like Pete the Cat, who are widely enjoyed by young children.
