The Escondido Public Library has a "Knights Realm Chess Club" for kids! (The meetings are currently on hold due to Covid-19.)

Kids are allowed to learn chess from library staff, utilizing the physical chess boards and pieces. They are also encouraged to play one another and staff to further develop their skills. All ages of children patrons are welcomed to the chess club. Chess boards can also be checked out and brought home!

I do not know how to play chess, and having been exposed to a program like this when I was a kid would have been delightful!

The Harford County Public Library provides access to "Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes" game for ages 3 and up. The character of Pete the Cat and their pictures books have become incredibly adored in library children's rooms everywhere. In this game, players are trying to solve a Pete the Cat and Cupcake themed mystery! It is based on a picture book of the same title.

The game incorporates physical movement, storytelling, critiacal thinking skills, discussions, and activities similar to charades. A great choice all around!
The Harford County Public Library provides access to a multitude of board games for kids, one of them being the perennial favorite, "Chutes and Ladders".

In this board game for ages 3 and up, a variety of silly, fun, and actionable situations are determined by rolls of the dice, similar to the game "Mouse Trap", but players move their pieces down chutes or up ladders on the board.

This game is fun, easy to understand, and incorporates movement and silliness into its "rules".
